NZSL tutors

The role of the New Zealand Sign Language Tutor is to teach Deaf students one on one, as well as work with families and staff to improve their signing skills and raise awareness of Deaf Culture. Our students come from a wide geographical area, and some live in isolated areas, so connecting with a tutor is often done by video calling.

NZSL Tutors are funded by the Ministry of Education as part of the NZ Sign Language Programme with the ultimate aim of ensuring every Deaf student at a mainstream school receives the best possible education within a responsive and supportive environment.
