The van Asch Deaf Education - Early Intervention Centre is located on the grounds of van Asch Deaf Education Centre located in Sumner -
Christchurch. The centre specialises in early intervention practices. The focus of programmes is parent-child support and empowerment.
“To build foundations for Deaf and hard of hearing children and their family/whānau to enable them to become capable, confident communicators
and learners” Deaf/Hard of Hearing pre-schoolers and their siblings can be enrolled in the centre. CODA
(Children of Deaf Adults) can be enrolled in our CODA group. We welcome all whānau/grandparents/relations and friends to come along
and join in group sessions. Deaf/Hard of Hearing pre-schoolers not enrolled in the centre may visit with their Advisor on Deaf Children.
Parents/whānau are encouraged to work in partnership with centre staff in all areas of their child's development. Parents/whānau are
expected to attend sessions with their child. Teachers support families to practise effective techniques and strategies for developing
their child's communication skills.
We have group sessions from
10.00 am - 12.00 noon Monday to Thursday (Thursday is our CODA group) Families may also attend an individual session from 9.15 am - 10.00 am or sometimes
12.00 noon - 12.45 pm which is before and after each of the group sessions.
