Residential Services
The Centre provides residential placements for deaf and hearing-impaired students from 10 to 21 years of age whose parents live outside the Christchurch area but within the boundaries of the region served by the Centre.
Accommodation and travel for students are funded by the Centre through a grant received from the Ministry of Education. Students travel home at the end of each term and at mid-term breaks.
The Centre has two residential homes situated in close proximity to each other on the Centre's grounds. These homes are staffed by a team of Residential Support Workers and Night Attendants and overseen by two Residential Social Workers. In most cases students have their own room which they can fill with comforts from home - photos, posters.
Residential students have the opportunity to participate in a wide range of cultural, sporting and recreational activities both within the Centre and in the wider Christchurch community and also have access to a fully equipped gymnasium, library, tennis courts and extensive playing fields within the van Asch grounds.
