van Asch Deaf Education Centre
Applications are invited for the position of Principal at van Asch Deaf Education Centre in Christchurch. The Centre employs approximately 130 staff made up of 80 teachers of the deaf and a range of non-teaching staff to provide early intervention, residential, technical, resource, regional teaching and specialist services for deaf and hard of hearing children, young people and their families/whanau in the lower half of the North Island and the South Island.
The successful applicant must have the ability to lead a complex organisation with expectations of excellence and the sensitivity to work cooperatively and in consultation with the Centre's Board, its staff, related agencies and both the Deaf and hearing communities.
S/he must also be able to demonstrate a sound knowledge of today's educational environment, the curriculum and strategic development particularly as it relates to special education. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and a sense of humour are essential to the position as is a sound knowledge of financial management.
