Literacy FAQs

Instructional readers

Can you recommend a series of instructional readers for a deaf child who is just learning to read?

A: After working with many deaf students at the emergent reading level we have found the Price Milburn (PM) Series and the Sails Literacy Series to be excellent. They offer good picture support and controlled language structures, with repetitive language, which provides the student with numerous opportunities for practising new words. Many mainstream schools will have these series of readers.
